14 November 1999 - 17 January 2002 Marco and his brother Polo came to live here when they were 9 months old. They needed a new home because the girl they lived with was moving to Australia with her family. They were big, laid-back boys who quickly made themselves at home, though there was some scuffling for a while when they discovered the smell of female rats for the first time. Marco was the more cuddly of the pair, at least at first, and he enjoyed lazing around on a lap while his more active brother explored the room. When he was just over a year old, Marco developed a respiratory infection that almost killed him. Antibiotics did nothing to improve his breathing and he was a gasping, skinny wreck. He was saved by a steroid injection, which brought about immediate relief. He did not suffer any more respiratory problems throughout his life. Marco died from a pituitary when he was two years and two months old. |
