Badger - 26 July 1999 - 19 September 2001 Hobbit - 26 July 1999 - 15 October 2001 These two roan sisters were six weeks old when they arrived here. Even then they looked like little round puddings and it soon became clear that they loved their food. They also loved people, but they weren't particularly fond of other rats, especially any new rats that were introduced into their cage. Hobbit (on the left in the picture) was a great "shoulder rat" and would have been happy to sit there all day. She had a couple of operations to have lumps removed and showed herself extremely adept at stitch removal! She developed chronic respiratory problems in old age and we worried abut her constantly, but it was Badger, her healthy sister, who left us first. Badger passed away quietly in her sleep without any signs of illness. Hobbit had to be put to sleep a month later when her respiratory troubles became unbearable for her.
